Play Visual GeographyHow Visual Geography Duel works
Choose one of four challenges and a difficulty, then answer 10 timed silhouette questions. Classic, Moderate, and Savant use four distinct choices. Legend asks you to type the answer and accepts only reviewed spelling variants.
Identify the Country
Study an accurate country outline and identify the country without labels, flags, or embedded place names. The initial pool excludes indeterminate and disputed boundary records.
Identify the Capital
Use a country silhouette to identify its recorded primary capital. Countries with multiple or ambiguous capital arrangements are excluded from this initial challenge pool.
Identify the State
Recognize every one of the 50 US states from its administrative outline. The pool does not mix states with Washington, DC or US territories.
Identify the Province
Recognize all 10 Canadian provinces and three territories. The game clearly includes the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon.
Difficulty levels
Classic begins with familiar locations. Moderate expands the eligible pool. Savant uses the full multiple-choice pool. Legend uses the full pool and removes answer choices.
Mobile and accessible play
Silhouettes preserve their aspect ratio and fit the available screen. Answer buttons support keyboard and touch controls, while typed answers can be submitted with the Enter key.
Geographic data sources
Country outlines use Natural Earth 5.1.2. Country names and capitals use a pinned REST Countries repository snapshot. US and Canadian ADM1 shapes use fixed geoBoundaries snapshots with source and license records.
Is Visual Geography Duel free?
Yes. Every Visual Geography Duel challenge is available for guest browser play without an account or download.
How are alternative spellings handled?
Typed answers ignore capitalization, extra whitespace, punctuation, and accent marks. Only reviewed aliases are accepted, so unrelated places are not treated as close enough.
